A Partnership with Rotary Club of Makati

of the Memorandum of Agreement between ABC Foundation and RC Makati at St. Luke’s Hospital at Global City, Taguig, for a joint Eyeglass Project. To sign for RC Makati were Vice-President, Francis Macatulad, President, Felix Amparo, ABC Foundation Chairman, Lew Edwards, Dr. Jeson Vinas and RC Makati member, Jay Savage.

Every school year, ABC Foundation conducts 2 Eyeglass Projects, giving away 400 pairs of prescription eyeglasses to poor elementary students.  However, for S.Y. 2009-2010, we conducted 3 Eyeglass Projects, giving away a total of 760 pairs of prescription eyeglasses to needy but deserving students.

One of the three Eyeglass Projects for S.Y. 2009-2010 is a joint project between ABC Foundation and the Rotary Club of Makati, District 3830.  The Rotary Club of Makati sponsored 200 pairs of prescription eyeglasses for the students of Col. E. De Leon Elementary School (CEDLES) in Sucat, Paranaque.

On February 23, 2010, ABC Foundation and RC Makati signed a Memorandum of Agreement at St. Luke’s Hospital at Global City for a joint Eyeglass Project wherein ABC Foundation, with the help of volunteer optometrist Dr. Jeson Viñas and his team would conduct eye check-ups at the elementary school and provide the students with eyeglasses sponsored by RC Makati.

On March 3 and 4, eye check-ups on the students were done at CEDLES in Sucat.  Dr. Jeson Viñas, Ms. Anne Viñas and Dr. Wilma Soriano checked the eyes of students who exhibited signs of poor eyesight.

On March 9, ABC Foundation, along with Dr. Viñas, Ms. Viñas, Dr. Soriano and members of RC Makati returned to CEDLES to distribute the prescription eyeglasses to the 200 elementary students.

Along with the free prescription glasses, the 200 students were also given books by RC Makati and instant noodles and pancit canton, sponsored by Uni-President Food Corp., Darlene Scalise, Merrilee Scalise and Terra Morehouse, ABC Foundation sponsors from the United States.
