At the start of every new school year, it is customary for us to visit the different Siena College campuses to meet our new Night High Scholars, and to see how our older scholars are doing. Last August, during our orientations at the start of S.Y. 2010-2011, we were accompanied by Chairman Lew Edwards’ 15-year-old grandson, Paolo Santos, from California, who was spending the summer vacationing in the Philippines.
With Paolo, we had an orientation with our Night High Scholars at St. Dominic Academy in Pulilan, and at Siena College, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. The Night High scholars welcomed us, and they were excited to meet Paolo. During our visit to St. Dominic, Paolo got to talk a little about himself, about school, and about his likes and dislikes, and answered questions asked by the Night High scholars. Paolo also shared with the scholars that he was very much into basketball and played with the Night High boys before our visit ended.
Paolo is a sophomore high school student in the U.S. and is very active in sports. After seeing our scholars during our visit to both schools, Paolo came up with the idea to donate sports equipment for the Night High Scholars of St. Dominic Academy and Siena College, San Jose del Monte. The project was called “The Paolo Santos Plan,” and when long-friends and supporters Bob and Beverly Sellar heard about it, they liked the idea so much that they decided to fund the project.
With the help of St. Dominic Academy and Siena College, San Jose del Monte administrators, who came up with a list of sports equipment they needed, and through the generosity of Bob and Beverly Sellar, we were able to buy sports equipment for the 145 Night High scholars of St. Dominic Academy, and 167 Night High scholars of Siena College, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
The sports equipment donation included basketballs, soccer balls, table tennis and badminton sets, volleyballs, chess sets, etc. The brand new sports equipment will be for the exclusive use of the Night High scholars in St. Dominic Academy and Siena College, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. By coming up with this project, Paolo hopes that the Night High scholars will have easy access to sports equipment, which in turn will help develop their skill and love for sports.
