HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS (JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH)

Beneficiaries of the Junior/Senior High School Scholarship Programs live in poor or slum communities located near enough to the school campuses that they can walk to and from school.  Usually only the fathers of the beneficiaries are employed, with jobs such as seasonal construction workers, tricycle drivers, jeepney drivers, farmers or fishball, fruits, fish, vegetable vendors.  Some fathers have jobs as seasonal mechanics, technicians and laborers.  In some cases, fathers are either too old or too sickly to work.

Mothers of the beneficiaries are usually housewives who stay at home taking care of younger offspring.  Mothers who have some source of income obtain it from doing odd jobs such as washing clothes, doing manicures/pedicures, sewing rags, or cutting garments from factories located around the communities.  Some mothers are also market vendors or accompany their husbands selling assorted products.  Some households have small “sari-sari” stores which serve as the families’ primary source of income.  In some cases, both parents of the beneficiary are unemployed and the family relies solely on dole-outs from close relatives and friends.

Most of the families of the beneficiaries of the Junior/Senior High School Scholarship Programs earn a total monthly income of P6,000-P7,000, while some families generate as little as P1,500-P3,000 a month.
