Greetings to all friends of A Better Chance Foundation!
Last School Year 2016-2017 ended with ABC Foundation having 26 college graduates which means we now have a total number of 190 young men and women sponsored by us who have graduated from 4 and 5 year courses in different universities and colleges. When writing this I pay tribute to the many donors who have made this possible. The majority of sponsors are individuals, corporations and other foundations from The Philippines. We, the scholars, their families are grateful to each of them.
School Year 2017-2018 starts soon and we’re only weeks or days away from the opening of classes as we expect around 950 Junior / Senior High Scholars to be sponsored this school year 2017-2018. For the first time ever we will also have Grade 12 in all Philippine schools and we have a large number of Scholars about to enter the pioneering class of Grade 12. We applaud these Trail Blazers who will graduate in 2018 from High School and we will offer college scholarships to many of them at that time.
This new school year we are honored to add the De La Salle College, Antipolo Campus 11th grade class of Night High Scholars to our list of Night High programs that ABC Foundation supports. We are actively asking our many donors to consider sponsoring one or more of the 40 scholars at this prestigious school which has an active plan to help the poor get a decent education in areas around their campuses. The cost is P4,500 for one year, about US $91. As always we will attempt to have the scholar stay in communications with his/her Sponsor.
Due to increased costs our tuition fees will be raised as follows:
P4,500.00 ($91.83) per scholar for one school year for Night Junior / Senior High Scholar our partner schools are:
State Universities / Colleges:
– P10,000.00 (US$204.08) per scholar for one school year (for Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of Rizal System, others).
-P16,000.00 (US$326.53) per scholar for one school year (for Rizal Technological University, Bulacan State University, Quezon City Polytechnic University, others).
-P 50,000, ($1,020.40) per scholar for one school year (for all Campuses of University of the Philipines), subject to discount when presenting the Finance Office evidence of parents income.
Exchange Rate: US$1.00 – Php 49.00
Regarding college tuition the government through the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has announced that certain State run Universities / Colleges will be tuition free this year. Should this be implemented and we have donations for any one of those positively affected by the government offer we will convert the tuition donation to miscellaneous fee payment and a monthly allowance to provide transportation and meal expenses to the Scholar. Kindly remember that our Scholars are all poor and their families have difficulty in funding expenses of all types for their college level children.
We will continue with our 3 feeding programs and offer all friends of ABC Foundation the opportunity to feed the malnourished children daily at school a nutritious meal for only 20 pesos or about US $ 40c. At present we have commitments to feed around half of the 316 children we hope to feed a good meal to every school day. Please ask us for more details on how easy it is to join us and help a child get back to normal weight and height for a small amount of money. Here’s an example of how easy it is to help. When you donate P 20 a day for 200 school days to feed a child every school day, it will cost you only P4,000 or US $81.63. For us, we feel it’s a great value. If you agree, ask us for more details.
We have been busy updating our website, we’re not quite finished but you can learn more about us at: http://www.abetterchancefoundation.org.ph/ and our FaceBook page is www.facebook.com/abetterchancefoundation2001/
Finally, we find it necessary to always ask for donations so that we can maintain and maybe increase the number of scholars we have and the malnourished children we have the privilege to feed. Any donation in cash or in kind is always appreciated!
