June 29, we visited St. Dominic Academy in Pulilan, Bulacan to meet our newest and youngest class of Night High Scholars for S.Y. 2011-2012.
There are 42 1st year Night High Scholars in the Class of 2016, made up of 17 boys and 25 girls. We got to meet them for the first time during the freshmen orientation yesterday at St. Dominic Academy.
During this first meeting, we gave the Night High scholars an overview of ABC Foundation and congratulated them on their accomplishments of being accepted into St. Dominic Academy and to the Night High School Scholarship Program.
As new Night High Scholars, we asked them to sign a Performance Contract which lists their responsibilities as Night High Scholars of ABC Foundation. The contract requires them to have exemplary behavior, exemplary grades, and most importantly, requires them to write letters to their sponsors to get to know them and to thank them for their support.
ABC Chairman Lew Edwards gave a short message to the Night High Scholars as well as to the St. Dominic Academy administrators present about the importance of teamwork in making the program a success.
Ms. Lei Carpenter, friend and supporter of ABC Foundation also gave a short message to the scholars encouraging them to do their best in school, while having fun and enjoying their childhood.
Night High alumnus, Alexis Balansag shared his experiences as a former Night High Scholar and gave the 1st year scholars tips on how to form and maintain lasting bonds with their sponsors.
After the freshmen orientation, all the Night High Scholars of St. Dominic Academy enjoyed their free merienda of pancit and orange juice as part of their daily feeding program, sponsored by long-time friends and supporters of ABC, Bob and Beverly Sellar.
We would like to acknowledge our friends who joined us during the orientation- Mr. Chae Kim and Ms. Lei Carpenter, who also sponsored 19 1st year Night High School scholars; Paulo Santos, grandson of Chairman Lew Edwards, who sponsored sports equipment for the Night High Scholars of St. Dominic last school year, and Alexis Balansag.
We would also like to thank all the administrators of St. Dominic Academy, for their enthusiasm and assistance; Ms. Claire Melebo and Sr. Eden, representing St. Dominic Academy School Head, Sr. Linda Guerrero, who unfortunately was not able to join our activity yesterday.
