Eyeglass Project at La Huerta Elementary School

For our first Eyeglass Project for S.Y. 2011-2012, ABC Foundation once again partnered with the Rotary Club of Makati District 3830 to give free prescription eyeglasses to students from the poorest of the poor.

The Eyeglass Project with the Rotary Club of Makati at La Huerta Elementary School in Parañaque City.

With the help of the Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED), the Rotary Club of Makati chose the students of La Huerta Elementary School of Parañaque City to be the beneficiaries of our first Eyeglass Project for the school year.

ABC Chairman, Mr. Lew Edwards, Mr. Francis Macatulad from the Rotary Club of Makati, Mr. Paul Villegas from the Ateneo Center for Educational Development, Ms. Anne Viñas, Dr. Jeson Viñas and Paolo Santos from A Better Chance Foundation, and Mrs. Bibiana Reyes, Principal of La Huerta Elementary School.

On August 10, ABC Foundation, along with Dr. Jeson Viñas and Ms. Anne Viñas visited La Huerta Elementary School in Parañaque to conduct eye check-ups among the elementary students.  With the help of the administrators and teachers of La Huerta Elementary School and Mr. Paul Villegas of ACED, Dr. Viñas and Ms. Anne Viñas examined the eyes of students from 4th to 6th grades.

We returned to La Huerta Elementary School today, August 18, to distribute the prescription eyeglasses to 150 elementary students with poor eyesight.  During the Eyeglass Distribution Program at La Huerta Elementary School, Dr. Jeson and Ms. Anne Viñas gave each of the 150 student recipients their prescription eyeglasses.  Dr. Viñas also gave a short lecture for the students and parents on how to keep their eyes healthy by eating the right foods.  He also instructed the students on the proper use and care of their eyeglasses and reminded them to wear their eyeglasses at all times and to not lend them to their siblings, classmates or parents.
