SCHOOL YEAR 2016-2017 soon ends as most of the schools we deal with have March 31 scheduled as their last day of classes. And it’s been a very good school year for us at A Better Chance Foundation. We’ve been privileged to have 693 Junior and Senior High Scholars, plus 174 college and university scholars. Our total scholars amounted to 867 in 6 campuses of the Dominican Order for Jr. and Sr. High and 25 different government schools for college and university scholars.
The only downside is that we had 46 Junior and Senior High Scholars unsponsored as well as 57 college scholars without a donor. We’re hoping these scholars will have sponsors next school year.
Thank you to all the Donors who supported us this school year. As I write we have 99 Donors and we are excited about who will be Donor # 100 before we close our school/ fiscal year March 31, 2017. Our 99 donors came mostly from The Philippines plus several from Australia and America. Donors came in 4 basic categories: Individuals, the greatest number, then corporations, civic groups and other foundations.
We also fed 316 malnourished children every school day for 200 school days during this school year. Every meal was sponsored by generous donors who cared for these grade school kids who were below normal weight and height as judged by Dept. of Education standards to be malnourished or even severely malnourished. All in all we provided 63,200 meals to those in need this school year.
We find it necessary to have a modest increase in the price of tuition for the next school year, 2017/2018. Prices will be:
Jr. and Sr. High — P 4,500 per Scholar, one full year. In US Dollars, about $90.00
(PUP) Polytechnic University of The Philippines, (URS) University Rizal System —P 10,000.00, about $200.00.
(BSU) Bulacan State University, (QCPU) Quezon City Polytechnic University, (RTU) Rizal Technological University of the Philippines etc. — P 16,000.00, about $320.00.
(UP) University of the Philippines — P50,000.00 (US$1,000.00)
Thanks very much for one more good year of keeping poor, smart children in school.
Lewis A. Edwards, Jr.
P.S. Our 100th donor came in as this report was being written. She is Jeannette Datar of Antioch, CA. USA. Congratulations and thank you Jeannette and Family.
